What is bahr el ghazal?

Bahr El Ghazal is a region in the southwestern part of South Sudan. It is bordered by Sudan to the north, Central African Republic to the west, Western Equatoria to the south and Lakes to the east. The region comprises of five states namely: Wau, Aweil, Gogrial, Twic and Tonj.

The region is mostly inhabited by the Dinka people, who are the largest ethnic group in South Sudan. The Dinka people have a rich cultural heritage and are known for their cattle herding and agriculture. The region has a tropical climate with wet and dry seasons. The wet season usually runs from May to October while the dry season goes from November to April.

The capital city of Bahr El Ghazal is Wau, which is the second-largest city in South Sudan. Wau serves as the main economic, social, and political hub of the region. The region is rich in natural resources such as timber, gold and other minerals, which has the potential to contribute to the economic growth of the region.

Bahr El Ghazal was a battleground during the South Sudanese civil war, which resulted in widespread displacement and suffering among the people. However, with the signing of the peace agreement in 2018, the region is now recovering and rebuilding its infrastructure, health, education, and other services to support its economy and people.
